Our Mission
Bonded by Strength Equine Rescue is a non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of abused, neglected, at-risk equine. We provide shelter, care, medical and rehabilitation services to equines in need, and whenever possible, we place them in loving and permanent homes.
Equines that cannot be placed are given permanent sanctuary so that they may live the remainder of their lives in safety and dignity.
Our Goals
BBSER will use the resources of donors, sponsors and volunteers to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome as many equines into permanent homes as is achievable, while maintaining a high level of care for equines in the facility. By publicizing and educating the public on the the fate of at-risk and urgent needs for equines, their options and availability, the organization will attract donors, sponsors and potential adopters for rescued animals. BBSER will educate equine owners and the community on preventive care and ethics regarding equines.
Define “At-Risk”
At-risk is a term we use to recognize when an equine has an increased likelihood of experiencing neglect, abuse, or inappropriate care. These may be horses that appear thin at local auctions, some of these are horses that have transitioned though several auctions over a brief period, other times at-risk horses may appear outwardly healthy but because of their circumstance may end up in an unideal situation.
We work to identify those at-risk horses and primarily acquire them from auction houses. Horses may also be voluntarily surrendered to BBSER by their owners or as part of a court case.
Rehabilitation and Adoption
Many horses come to the facility in poor body condition, often in need of dental care, deworming, and proper nutrition.
BBSER has a special interest in pregnant mares that are at-risk often because of age, improper nutrition, and significant lameness. Those mares have additional and more intense needs throughout their pregnancy and during the nursing months. Foals (and mares as appropriate )are then available for adoption once they are fully weaned.
Horses are offered for adoption once they are healthy and in reasonable body condition. Every effort is made to identify their training level and potential prior to adoption. Adopted horses may not be used for breeding.
The Merci Mission
Often horses are routinely in the auction pipeline with major health and lameness conditions preventing them from living a quality life. BBSER works with a veterinarian to identify those horses needing the gift of euthanasia so that they may pass with dignity and their suffering ends.
